Libby Joseph is famous for her romantic Christmas stories. Every December, readers devour her books of falling in love against the magical backdrop of the Christmas season. If only Libby believed in the magic herself…
Struggling to finish her current novel, Libby turns to her best friend and neighbour George Donaldson to cheer her up. But George also needs a bit of support himself. Nervous about getting back into the dating saddle after splitting from his wife, he and Libby strike a deal. She will teach George how to win over the ladies, and Libby will in turn be inspired to inject her novel with a good dose of romance.
As Libby and George explore the beautiful White Cliff Bay on a series of romantic Christmas-themed dates, Libby finds herself having more fun than she’s had in ages and…discovers feelings that she never knew she had for George.
But is it too late? Will George win someone else’s heart or can Libby act like the heroine in one of her stories and reach for her own love under the mistletoe this Christmas?
After reading Christmas at Lilac Cottage by Holly Martin which I loved, I knew I would have to read Snowflakes on Silver Cove and see if Holly’s 2nd release in Christmas books would be as good as her first. In true Holly Martin style the couple who are made for each other, decide to have two weeks of dates, Libby so she can get inspiration to write her romantic book, and so George can build up his confidence to ask his beautiful neighbour Giselle out on a date.
What I love about Holly Martin is the way she drags you into her books from the first few pages by making her characters so real and genuine you just want to learn more about them. Her dialogue between characters just flows seamlessly, from the off, Libby’s and George’s relationship is endearing, full of warmth and humour, you know they are made for each other from the start. Holly writes her scenes in such a straight forward no frills way you are able to conjure them up using very little imagination, I laughed out Loud at some of her outlandish ones, a purple cat, the psycho shower scene, the huge penis! I could go on and on, it’s suffice to say there is plenty of humour and belly laughs throughout Snowflakes on Silver Cove, to keep the reader highly entertained.
We are also introduced to other residents of White Cliff bay, Amy the voluptuous barmaid, Who is in love with the grieving widow Seb. Judith, Seb’s mother in law who will do anything to keep Seb away from Amy (the harlot!) and yes they are just as entertaining as Libby and George! As Libby and George go from date to date (all in the name of research of course), I fell more in love with their characters, they are just so endearing. As Snowflakes on Silver Cove reaches a satisfactory and heart warming conclusion, I felt like I was saying to “goodbye” to old friends. I’m hoping Holly will continue the White Cliff series and introduce the reader to more of her characters.
I have never been a huge fan of chic fiction, but I have to say Holly Martin has changed all that, I cannot wait for her next book, her writing goes from strength to strength. If you are looking for a “feel good” book that will keep you entertained on a miserable cold winters night, then Snowflakes on Silver Cove is the perfect book for you.
