Today I am thrilled to have Helen who blogs over at http://lifeofanerdishmum.blogspot.co.uk/ take part it in #TopFiveThursday. Helen reviews a wide range of books, and I love reading her reviews, Helen also runs a regular feature called Getting To Know……. which features both bloggers and authors and I really enjoy reading these intriguing posts and learning more about people. I’m sure you have already taken a look at Helen’s blog but if you haven’t it’s well worth a look.
Top 5 books You’ve read this year (so far)?
I’ve read 114 books so far this year and quite a few have been 5 stars, so I have chosen 5 that seem to have stuck with me for one reason or another (they aren’t in any particular order)
Six Of Crows – Leigh Bardugo
Sinking – Sarah Armstrong-Garner
The Count Of Monte Cristo – Alexandre Dumas
Batman: The Black Mirror – Scott Snyder
Whispers Of Bedlam Asylum – Mark C. King
Top 5 authors you think everyone should read?
Again in no particular order, this was very hard as I could recommend dozens!
Edgar Allan Poe – he’s my all time favourite author
Top 5 books you want to read before the end of 2016?
I have plenty of books I need to review before the end, so I have chosen 5 books that I want to read personally before the end of the year
Crooked Kingdom – Leigh Bardugo
The Tomb Of Hannu – Mark C. King
Harry Potter And The Cursed Child – Jack Thorne
Nimona – Noelle Stevenson
and because I’ve been reading it for over a year because I only read a few pages at a time – The Warren Commission Report: The Official Report On The Assassination Of President John F. Kennedy
Top 5 blogging tips that you would give to a new blogger?
Blog what you enjoy and not what you think other people will enjoy – people will be able to tell that the passion is not there.
Get involved in the blogging community. The book blogging community is extremely welcoming and offers support and advice.
Try not to say yes to everything! There are only so many hours in a day. (this one I still struggle with as I hate to disappoint anyone)
Don’t compare yourself or your blog to others. Everyone has their own style and the best one for you is your own.
You do not need ARCs to be a blogger/reviewer. Review that book you found in a charity shop that’s from the 80s, review classics, review (or talk about) whatever makes YOU happy.
5 of your favourite blogs?
My name is Helen and I blog under Life Of A Nerdish Mum. I’m a Lancashire lass born and raised. I am married to an extremely understanding hubby who supports my book addiction and I am mum to one mini Nerdling who is 3 and I am step mum to one Nerdling who is 7 nearly 8!
I will have been blogging for 2 years as of the 1st of January 2017, I started up my Twitter late in 2013 and then got everything prepared to start my blog from the start of the year. I did it as I was suffering from post natal depression quite badly at the time and I wanted to create something and some time that was just for me.
On top of blogging I work 6 nights a week, look after my little guy when he’s not at pre school in the afternoons and volunteer one morning a week at a speech therapy lesson for children aged 2-5. I’m not entirely sure when I get the time to read, but I do.
Thank you to Helen for taking part in in #TopFiveThursday, I really do appreciate each and every blogger who has taken the time to answer my questions, I know how busy everyone is. So a huge thank you to my fellow bloggers for your support and shares and RT 😘😘😘
